Mark Seymour

Founding Director

Founder-director, Mark Seymour, is a recruitment legend and the rock on which we stand. A pioneer in the search and selection sector, he has over 30 years’ experience sourcing top talent for specialist leadership roles for some of the biggest names in accountancy, banking, insurance and financial services.

He himself began his career in accountancy, working for Grant Thornton and then a major manufacturing company, before diving off the top board into the then relatively fresh waters of recruitment. The rest, as they say, is history.

Joining a specialist accountancy recruitment business as a consultant, in 1984, his client-side experience helped him quickly build trust and respect amongst clients and candidates alike. Natural leadership qualities marked him out as a rising star and, at his zenith, he became a company director with responsibility for over 40 offices across the UK.

As a passionate Welshman, the land of his fathers was where his heart lay and so, when he was asked to become Country Director for Wales, across all sectors, he jumped at the opportunity (whilst still running the UK operation for Insurance and Financial Services!). Over his 28-year career, he helped the business grow into one of the largest specialist recruitment companies around the world.

Mark jettisoned the corporate lifestyle in May 2012. With friend and colleague, Emlyn John, he set up Seymour John Limited, utilising all his experience, expertise and labyrinthine network of contacts to create the ‘perfect’ search, selection and business-improvement services company. As Mark says:

“The longer I was in the industry, the more convinced I was that transactional, factory-farm recruiters just can’t offer the kind of pin-point, specialist service that progressive organisations need to prosper. I’ve worked both sides. I understand the time and commercial pressures today’s business leaders are under and what they need from a company like ours. For me, Seymour John is about practising what we preach. I wanted to create a flexible, expert business organisation that puts people first and models a better, more productive way of working. I firmly believe, where people flourish, business thrives.”

A keen sportsman from a young age, Mark played rugby to a high level (does he do anything that isn’t?!) before becoming a coach. Mark has recently taken up golf and attends live rugby and football, along with spending time with his wife and two children, as often as he can.
