A specialist in senior finance with over 10 years’ experience across the Midlands and North West, Big Stu is one of those annoying people who is always going to be successful at whatever he does! Commercially astute, focused, hardworking and collaborative he is a natural networker who is always looking to develop long-term mutually beneficial relationships built on trust.
He graduated from Loughborough University, in 2006, before fast-tracking his career via a global recruitment business’s graduate scheme. The foundations laid, Stu took a year out to travel around China, South East Asia, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and America.
On his return, he joined a leading independently owned business in the North West, where he specialised in interim and permanent senior finance and project recruitment. Whilst there, he was responsible for setting up and leading new regional offices in Birmingham and the West Midlands.
Stu was aware of the growing reputation of the Seymour John teams in and around his region. As he says: ‘I knew the culture was collaborative and the prospect of working with exceptional consultants in a growing business was compelling.’
So, when the opportunity to head up a new team expanding into Staffordshire, Cheshire and North Wales arose, he didn’t hesitate. (The opportunity to recalibrate his work/life balance, ditch the insane commute and spend a bit more time with his young family didn’t hinder the decision, either!)
As he says: ‘Culturally there is a genuine synergy. The company’s quality over quantity approach and reputation for integrity and the highest levels of candidate and client care align with my own values perfectly. The group has such extensive networks and is expanding rapidly, it really is a fantastic opportunity to build something special.’
An international swimmer in his younger days, he represented Wales in the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Whilst not quite at that level now, he’s still driven to compete. A keen cyclist, the natural progression was towards triathlons, taking part in events including the Fred Whitton and Ironman Wales.
